PR Director Tracy Mullinax’s Summer Playlist

Finals are wrapping up, so you know what that means… finally not being too stressed to eat or sleep. Oh, and summer! So, eat a taco, have a good nap and listen to these songs to help drown out the internal countdown till next semester. Have a great summer Vandals, you earned it.

spinnin – mazie

My favorite part of summer is finally getting to drive with the windows down on a beautiful day and this song is a perfect anthem for just that.

DOGTOOTH – Tyler, The Creator   (explicit)

Tyler, The Creator’s release of CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale included the new track, DOGTOOTH, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s tiding me over until we get a new album.

Day Drinking – Little Big Town

I’m normally not a country music person but… this one is self-explanatory and pop-sounding enough to keep me interested.

Mission to Mars – WHALES TALK

I’ll admit when Mark sent this recommendation to me, I was hesitant, since he did win “most problematic music library” by office vote. But I must give credit where it is due, it’s a good song and it makes the cut.

Knock On Wood – Amii Stewart

This 1979 hit cover might seem like a weird choice for hot girl summer in 2023 – but this song was used as the final lip sync this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, where Sasha Colby and Anetra reminded the world that drag is not a crime, it’s not dangerous, it is art… and it’s not going anywhere.

SUMMER RENAISSANCE – Beyoncé  (explicit)

Beyoncé’s latest album was released toward the end of last summer and I think it deserves a full summer run this year. Especially after Beyoncé’s record-breaking night at the Grammy’s this year.

Flowers – Miley Cyrus

Summer is a season of taking a break from school and focusing on yourself, taking care of yourself, and of course, treating yourself by buying your own flowers (or a pair of very expensive shorts).

Kill Bill (feat. Doja Cat) – SZA   (explicit)

Sometimes you need a more emotional day in the sun. I hear crying is good for a tan. Just when I thought my obsession with SZA’s new hit had faded, Doja Cat came on for a feature that reignited my love, making this song my summer crush all over again.

Moonlight – Kali Uchis

Is there anything better than spending a warm summer night with the person you love? Probably, but here’s a song about it anyway.

Boy’s a liar Pt. 2 – PinkPantheress, Ice Spice

I don’t know about you, but Ice Spice has a death grip on me that I can’t slip out from, no matter how much sunscreen I wear to get all slippery.

F**k The Summer Up (feat. Biker Boy Pug) – Leikeli47  (explicit)

This song serves as a reminder to just get out there and have a great summer. KUOI had the honor of seeing Leikeli47 at Treefort this year and she reminded the crowd and the staff to always do what you want to do in life and be happy.

Fumari – Peach Tree Rascals   (explicit)

A recent favorite of mine that just screams summer to me. I really can’t offer any better explanation than that, this song just feels like getting a popsicle in your ear on a hot day… but like… not sticky.
