KUOI News Director Sierra Pesnell provides update on ASUI elections

ASUI newly elected executive and legislative officers this week. After a race between current ASUI Vice President Katie Hettinga and Director of Sustainability Olivia Niemi and former senators Tanner McClain and Madison Fitzgerld, the latter candidates won president and vice president. Their platform consists of student services, Vandal pride and representation.

McClain said student services consists of improved transportation, increased involvement with career services and timely grading.

“We want to talk with the Parking and Transportation Department and give decreased permits to students who decide to drive up and be drivers Vandal Uber,” McClain said.
“So, grow Vandal Uber as a whole. Another thing that’s coming to campus is Dash EV next year. It’s a mode of public transportation that we want to help promote and help maintain its staying on campus and make sure students are safe about it. Beyond transportation services, we want to fight for timely grading, and no due dates on weekends. We want to get more students involved in career services.”

McClain said Vandal pride would consist of spirit Fridays where students and faculty dress in Vandal gear to prepare for upcoming sporting events. Additionally, McClain said he’d like ASUI to host more events for students.

For representation, McClain said he’d like UI to be closer with other Idaho universities and colleges.

“We want to unite all the colleges across the state of Idaho in the Idaho Student Association and give the association more power to fight for higher education,” McClain said.
