As would be expected of a college radio station all of our staff members have received their Spotify wrapped for this past year and thought it would be fun to share the diversity that KUOI 89.3 FM has in their music tastes.

To kick us off our Station Manager, Mackenzie Davidson, had Caamp as her top artist followed by Maggie Rogers, Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, and Phoebe Bridgers. This showcases the more folky side of the KUOI staff and how sometimes the music that people play on their shows may not match what they listen to when relaxing. Mackenzie’s top songs were Radio Ga Ga, Moneytalks, Zombie, More Than a Feeling, and Voices Carry.

For our next set of Spotify wrapped we have Programming Director Gus Trudell-Richardson who had Masayoshi Takanaka followed by Black Sabbath, TV Girl, Treepeople, and Built To Spill. All of those artists are wildly different which is very much like how all of our shows at KUOI have a different sound from week to week. For his top songs Gus had Liquid Boy, Dark End Of The Street, Only A Fool Would Say That, and Weekend Friend. He also had the highest minutes listened out of all of us with 65,244.

Our Music Director, EvanJames Mulroy, had Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Weather Report, and finally Jim Croce in his top five. This didn’t surprise most of the staff as Evan is a well-known and self-proclaimed “Jazz Freak” as his show title infers. For his top songs Evan had Billy Boy, Operator, Dr. Jackle, Two Bass Hit, and But Not For Me.

Mars Carroll our News Director had a wild top five with Tyler, The Creator, Hozier, Kali Uchis, TV Girl, and Adam Melchor. Mars’s top songs were I CHOOSE YOU, Pink + White, Taking What’s Not Yours, So High, and I wish You Roses. Mars has had the same top two songs for at least two years so far. This year was definitely heavy on Tyler, The Creator as Igor got her through midterms and CHROMAKOPIA is getting her through finals.

Our Production Manager Ian Prasch had a Pacific Northwest band as his top artist with Nirvana followed by Khruangbin, Tame Impala, Her’s, and finally Jimi Hendrix. Ian had Stay Away, She Needs Him, Voodoo Child, Kool Thing, and Maria Tambien as his top songs.

Kat Clark, who is KUOI’s social media manager, had The Moss as her number one artist with Chappell Roan, Jack Johnson, Tyler, The Creator, and Tame Impala filling out the rest of her top five. Kat’s top five songs were Young Folks, Tongue Tied, Broke, CHAINS, and Dumb Wit It. Kat liked her Spotify artists but felt like her top songs didn’t reflect her actual listening because the list was influenced by her workout playlist.

For Digital Director, Connor Anderson, his top five started off with Slayyyter, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Childish Gambino, Lavalove, and Beastie Boys. Connor’s top songs were Over This!, One Last Heart, Baby Blue Beluga Moon, Luck in Love, and Good Morning Judge. What was interesting is that for Connor’s top five songs three of them were by Lavalove but they were only his fourth highest artist.

This year Spotify decided to include monthly music evolution titles in their wrapped and the KUOI staff decided that they wanted to share their favorite ones.

Connor had Psychedelic Mandolin Classic Rock for July because he was listening to Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Doors. Mars had Surf Crush Roller Skating Bedroom Pop for August because she listened to JAWNY, Frances Forever and d4vd.

The most interesting of our staff was Mackenzie. She had Goth Synthesizer New Wave for September that then turned into Witchy Rhythm Games Classic Rock in October that then culminated in Psychedelic Ye-Ye in November.
